It's so escapist it escapes even from itself.. Everybody in Love's Labour's Lost tries so hard to please, they frequently lose track of the matter at hand, to say nothing of the dialogue.. The producer- director- star- screenwriter is an unexpectedly charming musical lead, pleasantly reminiscent of Jimmy Cagney in Yankee Doodle Dandy.. . With all the cutesy-pie self-consciousness on display, the fizz goes off the pink champagne awfully quickly.. A luscious labor of love.. It's so eager to please...
