The film's slightly overplotted feel is offset by the zippiest musical numbers since the Muppets' deservedly beloved 1979 film.. Ms. Stroman's efforts to open up the play lack imagination, and all the musical numbers probably worked better on stage.. A middling letdown.. Nine should have been called 4A 1/2 because it doesn't come close to the work of the master who inspired it..
